The
Great Guitarists....Wayne Bennett! Sat Dec 13 07:38:16 PST 2003 born: 1934, Sulpher, Oklahoma, USA, died: 28 November, 1992 A skillful Blues guitarist, WAYNE BENNETT came to prominence in the mid-50s as a member of OTIS RUSH's Chicago-based band. From there he was picked by JOE SCOTT to join the touring and recording orchestra of BOBBY BLUE BLAND. With arrangements by Scott and scintillating solos by Bennett, Bland became the leading live attraction on the chitlin’ circuit in the late '50s and early '60s. Bennett's playing also contributed to Bland's numerous hits of the era, such as I Pity The Fool (1961) and Stormy Monday Blues (1962). During this period, Bennett was also a session player for other DUKE/PEACOCK artists such as JUNIOR PARKER and GATEMOUTH BROWN. He left Bland's group in the late '60s and subsequently appeared on records by such Blues artists as BUDDY GUY, FENTON ROBINSON, JIMMY REED and JIMMY ROGERS. In 1981, Bennett was named Blues Guitarist of the Year by the National Blues Foundation and in the early '90s he was based in Louisiana performing with WILLIE LOCKETT and the BLUES KREWE. Bennett died in November 1992 from heart failure, just prior to a scheduled heart transplant operation. From: Overture |

Jimmy
Beaumont Of The Skyliners Is Alive And Well! 2003-12-06 18:18:36.0 Strange stories still occur in the world of journalism. Just why so many people were duped still remains to be seen. How this fraudulent concept by a man who has recently deceased was passed on to so many people remains a mystery. But with respect to the dead, there is no point in going further. The great story here is that the original JIMMY BEAUMONT of the marvelous vocal group THE SKYLINERS is alive and well and continues to perform with the second and third generations of that historic group. BluePower tracked down JOE VERSCHAREN, the original baritone of the Skyliners, in order to varify this story. BluePower has just hung up the phone after speaking to this wonderful gentleman. The first thing Mr. Verscharen said was, (please excuse the term), "BULLSHIT! Jimmy Beaumont is as alive as you and I!" BluePower apologizes to The Skyliners and their fans for the erroneous stories that have run for the last two weeks. As we said....We will be the FIRST to admit it if we were wrong. And we were. Gospel....Reverend James Cleveland! 2003-12-05 10:49:32.0 Born: Dec 5, 1932 in Chicago, IL Died: Feb 9, 1991 in Culver City, CA The visionary behind the contemporary gospel sound, the REVEREND JAMES CLEVELAND was a pioneering composer and choral director whose progressive arrangements — jazzy and soulful, complete with odd time signatures — helped push the music past the confines of the traditional Baptist hymnal into new and unexpected directions, infusing elements of the sanctified church style and secular pop to alter the face of gospel forever.
