01/19/2004 The Blues - A
Brief History |
|
|
We thought we would start the new year off with a
Brief History Of The Blues. We tried to let folks know where
the Blues came from and how it was transmitted throughout the
world. Mind you; it is brief. John has written the tightest
show yet and still it covers a lot of territory. We hope you
enjoy, A Brief History Of The Blues. |
10/17/2003 Doo Wop
Heaven....The Series (Part One)! |
|
|
For 38 years, HUMBLE HARVE MILLER broadcast across the
airwaves of the United States. For 38 years, this single man
was responsible for breaking and airing more hit records than
any other DJ in the history of American broadcasting. From
(excuse the term) humble beginnings at Trenton, New Jersey's,
WAAT in 1958 to KZLA in Los Angeles in 1996, Humble Harve
became more than a legend on American Pop Radio. He became a
symbol, an icon of the term "format radio". Millions of folks
across the USA grew up listening to this famous "Boss Jock".
BluePower is proud to present part one of a series of historic
CD's produced completely by Mr. Miller titled, Doo Wop Heaven.
This series recalls all the hits in order to define that
specific area of American Popular Music called "Doo Wop". An
educational masterpiece! |
09/20/2003 World Series Of
The Blues....Ireland! |
|
|
The second in our series of international Blues
tributes completely recorded and produced in the country of
Ireland. This show, hosted by Mr. BARRY MCCABE, demonstrates
that the tiny country of Ireland has a long and treasured
Blues history. Stay tuned as Barry plays both old and new
artists; all of Irish derivation and shows BluePower listeners
that size of country means nothing when it comes to tasteful
playing of the Blues. |
08/08/2003 The Young
Marquis Summer Special! |
|
|
All right folks....Time to put on your glad rags and
get ready to rock. This time, THE YOUNG MARQUIS is throwing a
party at his fabulous Hollywood Hills home and the partying
just does not stop. You're all invited so come on in! This
show features only the finest in "non corporate" Rock, Blues,
Rockabilly, R&B and Swing. The usual great mix of party
music not heard on noxious corporate radio. Stay tuned as the
insanity moves forward and infects the world through the
Internet. |
06/27/2003 The Young
Marquis Returns! |
|
|
He came, captured and thrilled Los Angeles audiences
for two years on the "Rock Of Los Angeles", KROQ. THEN....HE
DISAPPEARED! BluePower wondered where this crazed talent had
gone and after almost two years of intensive searching,
finally found THE YOUNG MARQUIS living in complete seclusion
(almost), at his English countryside mansion just outside
Cambridge. Offering TYM the opportunity to reach a worldwide
audience and a decent pizza, he graciously agreed to move back
to Los Angeles to start producing some brand new insanity
exclusively for BluePower.com. Find out for yourself why this
eccentric man drove his audiences wild. With his selection of
the greatest in Blues, Rock and R&B, (not to mention (his
brand) of humour); the party never stops. So....if you really
want to add a little spice to your mundane day or night
(wherever you may be)....tune in to TYM's Howlin' Houseparty
on BluePower.com. running 24 hours a day. A new TYM show will
air every two weeks....(If we don't get busted by the FCC in
the meantime.) RATED "N" FOR NAUGHTY! (For the best
experience....Broadband recommended. Real Player required.)
Recorded and Produced for BluePower by John Rhys Eddins at
Saturn and Vine Studios, Van Nuys, California. |
01/22/2003 Alastair
Greene....A New Breed Of Bluesman! |
|
|
He's young and gifted . He hails from Santa Barbara,
California. He's not from the South and he hasn't traveled the
roads the original Bluesmen walked. Yet he posseses a
remarkable ability to play real Blues. His Blues. In our
efforts to keep the Blues legacy alive, BluePower is searching
for new Bluesmen or Blueswomen. We believe ALASTAIR GREENE
will be a major contender in the New Blues Community. See what
you think. Tune in as John and Mr. Greene talk about this
young man's excursion into the world of the New Blues.
|
12/01/2002 Matt
Lucas....Rockabilly Hall Of Famer! |
|
|
Matt Lucas plays Blues! He plays RocknRoll! He plays
Boogie! He has Soul. Heck Matt even played DISCO! This guy can
play it all! Matt Lucas was born in the Delta and raised in
the Black land farming communities of Missouri. Matt Lucas
knew he had the Blues from the first time he heard them. His
songs are humorous, sad, insightful and revealing. Here is a
guy who has been to the top and knows where the bottom is as
well. His music tells the story of the birth of RocknRoll and
he knows where it came from too. Matt Lucas knows how to move
his audience out of the chair and on to their feet. His first
hit was "I'm Movin' On", which was recorded in Memphis in the
early 60s and became his first gold record. He took this old
country standard and made it his own. Many hits followed his
first million seller but this one never dies. Its back on the
charts again in Europe and still climbing. Matt has just
recorded another CD. Recorded outsite Memphis and produced by
Lou Hobbs. Its called SHOCKABILLY and with Matts wonderfully,
wild and unique style, singing these great rockabilly songs,
it has got to be a hit! Matt Lucas is a drummer. One bad-ass
drummer. He is one of those rare birds that can keep a beat
and sing too. Matt is touring, playing festivals, and giging
all over the place. If you see a tall blond guy with flying
drum sticks singing his heart out - bets are its Matt Lucas.

08/08/2002 Rastus (Parts
One,Two And Three) |
|
|
THE BEST MUSIC YOU "NEVER" HEARD! In 1969 I met a band
which would become a driving force in my life for the next two
years. I have had the good fortune to work with some really
fine musicians over the years but none that could compare with
the tremendous power of Rastus. My problem was that I could
not get them to play with the same intensity in the studio as
when they were in front of an audience. Listen in as Jim
Cantale and I discuss the ups and downs of a band that was on
the edge of making it big but could never cross the line to
real stardom. John Rhys/BluePower.com |
03/15/2002 Soulful
Detroit! |
|
|
John Rhys spent seven years making records in Detroit,
Michigan. He worked for many of the now defunct labels which
were prospering at that time. This show is a trip down memory
lane. Many of the songs you will hear were never released for
one reason or another and all of the product heard on this
show came directly off the original acetates and masters. You
"will" hear the clicks and pops so familiar on the original
records. BluePower is happy to be able to present this show
specifically for the Northern Soul fans in Great
Britain. |
06/19/2001 Lester Chambers
And K. K. Martin....Black And White Blues! |
|
|
LESTER CHAMBERS, K.K.MARTIN and EDDIE KEATING are a
rare combination of soul, rhythm and harmony. Utilizing many
songs from the past, this remarkable potpourri of talent
delivers a totally unique blend of Blues. Guaranteed 100%.
Recorded live at KULAK'S WOODSHED in North Hollywood,
California. |
04/01/2001 Solomon
Burke....Preacher, Soulman, Doctor. |
Solomon Burke |
|
"I was born backstage during a performance. I guess I
learned to cry in key because they couldn't hear me over the
trombones". Dr. SOLOMON BURKE. A man of many talents, talks
about his early life in Philadelphia. His humble
beginnings...Life in the fast lane, and his future. John Rhys
captures the essence of the man that is Solomon Burke.
|
03/03/2001 An Evening
With John Mayall! |
John Mayall |
|
If there could be anything to describe JOHN MAYALL, he
would be the CEO of the early sixties British blues scene. An
accomplished musician, Mayall is also excellent at surrounding
himself with nothing but the best players. Listen as the
eloquent Mr. Mayall speaks candidly to John and Jeanie of his
life before the music business...his trials and his
accomplishments. His family and his life to date.
|
12/01/2000 The Sir Charles
Blues Lab |
|
|
What if we could get kids to pick up a guitar instead
of a gun? Imagine youngsters settling a dispute with a jam
session instead of a gang shooting. Well...It's starting to
happen folks. The program is beginning to take hold and grow.
Listen as SIR CHARLES himself explains the program he created
to help kids improve their self worth and dignity. BluePower
is proud to be involved in the beginning of an entirely new
concept of education. This is an important program for anyone
interested in the education of their children as RICKY
WASHINGTON (music director of Hollywood High School)and DANE
GILLIBRAND (The Sir Charles Blues Lab) will testify.
|
09/15/2000 Ike Turner
Interview....Parts 3 And 4! |
|
|
This time IKE pulls no punches. He speaks about the
record companies of the fifties and sixties and their ways of
doing business. He talks about JERRY WEXLER and AHMET ERTEGUN
at ATLANTIC. PHIL and LEONARD CHESS of CHESS RECORDS. The
BIHARI BROTHERS at MODERN and SID NATHAN from KING RECORDS.
(Ike's first contract at King Records paid him 1/4 of a cent
per record sold. Outrageous by today's standards.) On the
other side of the coin however; Ike reminds us that these
companies were the standard bearers of Black music and were
responsible for the giant steps that brought Blues and Rhythm
and Blues to the forefront of American popular music and that
without these independent record companies and the men that
ran them, these genres may have died out completely. Ike
speaks out about RAP and the negative values of the genre
regarding African Americans. The second of a four part series.
|
07/18/2000 Ike
Turner....The Bad Boy Of The Blues! |
|
|
BluePower is proud to present Part One and Two of an
exclusive interview with the inimitable IKE TURNER. Hailed as
the FATHER OF ROCK AND ROLL, Turner talks of the early days on
the road, his influences and of the racial parameters Black
musicians had to mind in the South. In this first hour of a
four hour series, John and Jeanie attempt to uncover Ike's
feelings regarding many topics. We think you will be surprised
to find this man is "not" the ogre of which he has been made
by the media. You will find that Ike Turner is one of the most
gifted popular musicians alive today and has contributed more
to the world of popular music than even the experts realize.

|
|
B.B. KING is an American icon. He has won more awards
than his home in Las Vegas will hold. He has been named
"America's Ambassador Of Music" by the President of the United
States. With all these achievements, the man remains the
utmost in humility. In this most articulate interview, Mr.
King speaks of the South in the 50's, Race music, and lists
his major influences. Recorded after a tremendous performance
at The Mirage Hotel, a remarkable man tells the truth about

04/14/2000 The World
Series Of The Blues From New Zealand! |
|
|
Hi everyone; this is MIKE GARNER bringing you an hour
of blues by musicians from the South Pacific; from New
Zealand, in fact. In our two islands we're about as far from
the Mississippi Delta as you can get but Kiwis love all kinds
of music and blues is no exception. The whole spectrum of
blues is played in New Zealand, from Chicago, to acoustic, to
Texas, to jazz influenced, to boogie woogie piano and in the
next hour we'll hear from just some of the performers in New
Zealand. Of course we're limited to those who have produced
CDs and the cost of that in our small market of just 3.5
million people makes it both expensive and difficult to do.
The "World Series Of The Blues" is presented in part by ESI
Event Services. Please help keep this series alive by checking
out the ESI web site. Please click on link below. ESI
