BluePower Presents....The Blues In Schools! (Part One)
It's not often I have the privilege of having my son in Los Angeles for a visit. When he comes, usually we just hang out, have dinner and play Scrabble. (Last time we played Scrabble, he won by using the word "yurt".) How frustrating! I had actually stayed in a yurt many years ago and had quite forgotten the term.On this visit we were talking about the Blues and Dave mentioned that he was influenced heavily by some early and contemporary Blues artists. It was then we decided to document David's early Blues references for posterity. I learned a great deal about my son....as will you.
David selected all the songs played on both shows. The shows are fairly lengthy but the music kicks. It's always amazing to me the life that is generated because of the early listening of a few good Blues tunes well played. And....the conversation is good.
David Schools' life has been particularly interesting, don't you think?

The marvelous photo above was taken by the most illustrious Henry Diltz. A man I met long ago when I first came to Hollywood at a place called The Chicken Ranch. A notorious gathering place for many great musicians high in the Hollywood Hills.

Yurt? What kind of word is that?
So typical of Dave!
A Yurt is a portable, felt-covered, wood lattice-framed dwelling structure used by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia.
I think having an interesting father helps one have an interesting life, Yes? But damn it he's smart. Yurt. I bet he giggled when he spelled it out.
Good to see you have deep soul of Blues, I too love the blues and always can put it on. Buddy Guy is one of mty favorite Blues players still alive. Dave Schools is a master of the bass. I love WSP. Keep jamming Dave, see you on the road.

Thanks a lot for this blues podcast with Schools' selections!
I'm a huge fan of Dave Schools, in WSP, Stockholm Syndrome, Slang, Gov't Mule or any project he takes on, he's one of my all-time favorite musicians and I'll check out his music recommendations anyday.
Schools is just amazing at the way he can play the bass. Which is why he has want to learn and play the bass as well as well maybe in 10 years the same, as the master of the BASS
Thanks for this insight into your musical influences and appreciation. I look forward to listening to these blues segments over the next few hours.
Peace
I absolutely loved this interview and the music that went along with it. I am a huge Panic/Schools fan, and I've always enjoyed listening to the blues. However, this opened my eyes (and ears) a little more to some artists that I am now looking into. This made me want to find out more about the blues. Thank you!
