Hello fret2fret.com....Are You There?

From: BluePower.com
By: John Rhys

Since posting the new BluePower, I have had the exemplary pleasure of watching Google ads roll by as I checked the site day by day. The first time I saw what those tiny ads had attributed to our bank account, I decided to check the ads myself just to add the extra penny (we need all the cash we can find) per click through.

I enjoy doing this as it is quite new to me. It's not a lot by any means, just pennies, but it's verification that the net can pay if you work it. And I love to work it.

Tonight, whilst adding 5 cents (clicking five ads) to my bank account, I discovered something that intrigued me. An ad professing to give incredible guitar skills in just 45 minutes. I thought it would be interesting to see if the method really works and looked for a place to email the gentleman owning these remarkable teaching skills. Alas....there was no way of reaching this man, company....whatever. You could however; go directly to PayPal to purchase the product when you clicked what you thought was the email link.

Now you have to understand, I am suspicious by nature as I have been in the music business most of my life. All I wanted to do was ask the gentleman to let me review the technique and rate it.

If anyone knows the gentleman running this site, please have him write to blupwr@sbcglobal.net. I would love to improve my guitar skills and I'm sure a lot of our viewers would as well.

This is simply an invitation to see if what he claims really works as I have great pride in what ads float around on our site. I wouldn't like them to be misleading for our viewers sake.

Perhaps the site is new and has a few bugs. This is not a challenge but a test to see if those claims are true. It would be wonderful if they were.

Shall we see?

hey. i came over the site yesterday and i sent him a mail on mike@fret2fret.com with several questions. i got a reply less than 24 hours after, but i'm still not sure if i dare waste my money on this... looking for a bit more info too...

his reply:

The concept is based on a very clever memory technique which lends itself
incredibly well to the fretboard. There is a very special sequence of notes
which is found everywhere on the guitar. You are taught this sequence and when
to use it. It is very clever, very quick and due to it's very nature, almost
impossible to forget. The software is presented in a type of interface and is
viewed on your PC. It can also be printed out. You are able to download the
system as soon as you have paid for it and you are sent a CD containing a hard
copy of the system and the 115,000 guitar tabs which are text based. There are
also 28,000 guitar pro tabs on the disk.
Hope this answers your questions.

I also sent an email to Mike and never got a reply.

As you and the other blogger, I would also like to see some sample of his methos before I buy, and if he does, he has a sale.

It's bogus or he would do more than rant and rave for 3 pages without giving a single example of the process. Buyer beware. Until I find an unbiased review, I'm not touching his product with a ten foot pole.

heres the "secret"....the notes on a guitar follow a patern. A, D, G, C, F, A#, D#, G#, C#, F#, B, E, and back to A. This pattern goes vertically down the fret board. Make up a story to memorize it. Just Remember that at the 5th string you need to take the note before what the pattern would suggest. ie. a D, instead of a D#. There you have it.

Hey all, I thought I would go out on a limb here, since PayPal does protect the buyer, I thought I would go ahead and try this out. However, an hour after I have paid and I have received NOTHING! The only thing I got was an email from PayPal saying I paid. STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY! He's after the money and that's it. Obviously the info is SO TOP SECRET....it DOESN'T exist!

Hi Guys: Well, I "fell for" the tempting ad and paid the $27.99 and (as one of the earlier comments states) it really is simple. It's almost TOO simple. But like lots of powerful things (like learning to type) it sounds simple (Just put your fingers on the keyboard and think the letter onto the screen) learning and using are two different processes. Any tool sitting in a draw will not be useful - it's potential lies in the form and function of the tool and the skill of the user. Fret2Fret...worth it? ($35CAD - Canadian dollars for me) - Yes.
But, then again, I can type at over 80 wpm, and when someone told me (After years of hunting and pecking) that is was worth the $48 for a Typing Program. My first thoughts were the same as some of the other commentors - "I'm not gonna risk that kind of money" Now, when it comes to learning intuitive skills (like typing or playing the guitar), I invest - not in the software - but in my own ability to learn.
Thanks to Fret2Fret - and some time and some serious practice, I expect to be buzzing along the fretboard, just as I buzz around the keyboard typing this comment. Cole in Canada.

It is just a mnemonic to learn the sequence ADGCFA#D#G#C#F#BEA plus a tiny little bit of information. If someone would teach you the mnemonic Elephants And Donkeys Grow Big Ears for the strings of the guitar, would you pay for that as well? Would you recommend buying it, if the person who taught you the mnemonic would promise people gold mountains? Or are you Mike Slaiter himself on holiday in Canada?? ;-)

Hi there.. came across this a few days ago, and at first, I was pretty sure that it was fake !.. So I did a little research to see what it was all about..

Apparently if you look on the ebay ads for it,the pictures in the ad are hosted on the same server as the actual program, so all you have to do is get the server name from the picture by looking at the source, then look at the server in your browser.

So why Don't you check it out yourself free of charge !!!

check out this link, and just chose the fret2fret.exe in the bottom of the page and then click 'browser download'..

http://www6.streamload.com/Nodes/Node.asp?cxInstID=25259315&nodeID=224841

And Voila !..Nice and Free.. and it's actually working !, but of course it's not worht the $28, but it's a good start...

I hope this helped u All !

Thanks, I went and got it for free. I read the story, went up and down the fret board a few times and now I know what notes I am playing. It works! The story is so wacky it has to work and I find myself laughing as I realize what note I am on.

However, it certainly does not give you the ability to play. You still have to know your scales and put in lots of practice. But even knowing scales, I have found myself getting lost on the fretboard many times. Especially when trying to move around too much. This tool will help to find the right note to start on wherever I am at on the fretboard.

So, his advertisement is very missleading in that he says you will be able to play any song you want and be able to know that you are playing the right notes. Knowing what notes you are playing does not make them right.

So I think it's a bit of a rip off if you pay the $30 for it. Then on the other hand I guess you have to look at it like you are buying the free guitar tab that he sends to you. Assuming he sends it and it is worth anything. I've seen a lot of bad guitar tab before.

Hope this helps someone.

I downloaded the free one that someone graciously posted the url to, and boy am I glad I did. This thing is hardly worth the time it takes to download. Ok, the memorization technique is somewhat intriguing, but anyone can come up with their own little song and dance to do that. However, the ADGCF sequence goes all to pot across the fret board when you hit the B string due to the half-step down for tuning. While he admits this in the app, he gives you a way to correct the issue, but it still doesn't work out up and down the fret board. Don't waste your money on 5 flash driven screens and get the freebie.

also if anyone want to check out my FREE lessons on My site about learning the fretboard here's the link...

I'm not promising you'll learn in one hour (I know of no man who has leaned to play a song "like a pro" all the way through in "one hour") but I do beleive my system is pretty good. I should be using it more myself...lol PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE !!!! "we'll not learn anything by looking for shortcuts" Monte Self

Hello. I've just done an HND in guitar where I was lucky enough to be taught by some of the worlds top professionals, improvising was a major part of the course. I got the free version from link kindly posted and I'm not sure if you can price this. On it's own it's utterly useless. However the principle and memory technique is useful as it employs various parts of your brain making it a stronger part of your conscience. When soloing a key thing is using scales that posses the same notes as the chords you're playing (obviously you can step outside but it's a good idea to resolve on a strong note that defines the character of the chord you're playing over) having an intimate knowledge of where each note lies and what lies around it will help for A) Letting you know straight away where scale start and end points are, and B) where you're going when you step outside that scale pattern and what scale you could then be playing into. This is quite a sterile way of playing though, truly great improvisers, the likes of Van Halen, Jeff Beck and some of the guys Mike lists improvise by ear and feel not just by theory knowledge alone. Their awesome perception of pitch, melody and most importantly TIMING lets them move effortlessly from one note to the next. They can hear that, when on any given note, what a note a tone away from that will sound like etc etc, this comes from experience and listening to records and learning licks from other guys, jamming, I think it's a process of building and experimenting then a touch of creativity to create something new. Some people, for a bunch of reasons, are better than others at this. So, if you want a lazy way to be "a pro" then no, there's obviously a shitload more to it, but if you're a competent player, know some scales etc and want to feel more confident about the fretboard I reckon it's worth learnin for free.

oh dear, glad i didnt pay any money for this! the method for memorising the fret board is at best rather obvious and certainly does not deliver what it says in the advert (after 30 mins of reading a few flash screens im yet to turn into jimi hendrix). I found it much easier just to rember where Es and Fs are as well as all the tuning notes on the 5th fret. from here you can find all the B's and C's are (there just under or above the e's and f's) and from there quickly find the rest. fancy charging £30 for a poorley wriiten, silly little story. feel kinda ripped getting it for free!

I think maybe you guys are forgetting one MAJOR IMPORTANT THING HERE... YOU CAN GET EVERY SINGLE PENNY BACK!!!

I bought it, even though I was skeptical at first "sound like steve vai in less than 60 minutes"... that did sound a little suspicious... but you see the PayPal logo and you know that you're in good hands.

Folks the guy was straight up honest, though slightly misleading, he told you what you were buying: "the ability to memorize the entire fretboard"... and with the use of common sense (sorry I have no files for you to download for common sense... you have to put effort into that on your own) I picked through the propaganda and found what I was being sold.

I figured, worst case scenario: I buy it and get ripped off... I'd just go to PayPal and tell someone I got ripped off and I get my money back... another bad scenario: I buy it and I'm not satisfied... I'm not playing like Steve Vai after one hour... I can get my money back from Mike Slaiter, and still keep the 115,000 tabs CD for free...

Here's the actual scenario that happened... I bought it... dinked around with it... learned how to slowly find my way around the frets using a stupid story about danny devito... and i'm gradually becoming very satisfied with my $30 spent...

So stop slandering, guys... He was trying to help... though I will admit he sort of tricks the reader... he was honest. And for that I'm not going to defame his name.

MISSLEADING is a very friendly description.
After all the memory technique is quite ok it is really hard to forget,
none the less you can´t claim that this makes you fell like clapton
(i was just astrummer now i feel like clapton-after one hour you pick your guitar and can´t stop playing-one hour you play along any song like a pro-you will know the secret that pros like angus young etc. know)-i doubt this particuarly
The idea is quite clever as this guy trying to help himself make money.
Somebody here has described the GREAT secret in two sentences an that´s it.
And a tab cd-unless they are very good-ain´t worth much more than a blank cd.I can sell everyone a 200000 tabs cd for ten buck, though im not clever enough to do this

Well, I bought it for my students. I was a bit surprised at how easy it will be when we apply it but mostly, the cd with the 115,000 tabs came about two days after I purchased the system. I had to unzip it, np. I am amazed at how many tabs there are. IT'S GREAT. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SPENDING THE MONEY ON IT. I have instant access to any song I can think of. My students are pretty enthusiastic about it. I like it because I don't have to go online or buy any books to get instant access to music. yup.

Kinda strange how every time there's someone trying to tell us it's crap and misleading and a complete rip off, there's another "person" trying to convince everyone it's not all that bad?
Makes me kinda suspicious, i'd think there's just some guy who made a little flash program about a way to memorize your guitar who is desperately surfing on the web for anything containing "fret2fret" and trying to undo the damage.

But maybe i'm just paranoid,

Yeah, this is for real. I ordered it. Got the promised cd in the mail within a reasonable amount of time. Looked at it tonight for the first time. It seems sound enough to me (no pun intended).

If you're just learning to play, then, no -- it probably *won't* have you playing blazing solos in an hour, though it certainly wouldn't hurt to start your guitar-playing career by learning the proper fretboard.

If you already have some sense of what you're doing, I expect it could be a useful tool, especially if you have a good ear and/or some prior knowledge of scale patterns. (And assuming, of course, that you put in the practice time.)

I find it troublesome that some folks seem so eager to trash the guy for asking money for what he's offered. Either buy it or don't. Nobody's twisting your arm.

If you don't like what you got, then *do the honorable thing* -- send it back, get your refund, and go blow your 28 bucks on something else. Don't sit there feeling smug and ripping *him* off by giving away his product for free. The man has every right to put a price on what he knows, whether anybody else agrees with it or not.

buzzing through all sorts of guitar stuff on the web tonite i came across this weird fret2fret thingy and consequently (well, if you're the suspicious type ;)) couldn't help to enter into this discussion here!

and what can i say - i was probably quite lucky to find here a possibility to check out on it. at first almost feeling a bit like flying the jolly roger after entering this ominous little flash tool "all for free" i can only agree to what has widely been stated here before: it can be useful, but is definately not the stunningly fast way to fame the author ballyhoos in his ads. though a clever businessman, he's on the other hand not even smart enough to secure his files from easily being raided - but perhaps he doesn't really care?!

lucky us - everyone IS at least intrigued by the idea of it, and wants to find out ;) well, and if his sappy little story helps to remember what's going on on all those frets who cares he wouldn't be awarded with the pulitzer prize?

but in any case it's not worth some 28 $.
i'm actually more interested in the tabs ;)
as for this, are they (at least) worthwhile, or can someone recommend other compilations of that kind?
thanx for info, please mail to

I fell for the "great secret" and now I'm trying to have my %100 money back guarantee worked out. This is the biggest piece of crap scam going. Yes I fell for it, and so will others unfortunately. Buyers definately beware. I have tried numerous times to contact not only mike slaiter himself, but I have also had no luck contacting the problems link either. They are all busy I'm sure, laughing all the way to the bank

I've looked at it. I don't think it is worth $28. There is too much hard sale on his website it made me sceptical. His security is lousy.

The story is very long winded but I guess it most be useful as some peole are claiming great results.

Don't think there are any real short cuts to becomming a great guitarist. It is hard if your talented let alone just inspired by the sound you hear on the radio etc.

GuitarNoise has been useful for my confidence helping me to be able to play songs.

I noticed that this only helps with the Sharps. I redid this with flats and noticed it's simply the circle of fifths. If anyone has memorized the circle of fifths just apply this to the fret board - remeber to jump up one fret at the 5th string.

whoever receives mails from a certain "mike" and/or this mail-addy: "mike@fret2fret"

be careful, because today I received two different mails from this sender named above, and both contained virus. I checked the mails on not less then three mail providers with the same result!!!

I have no idea whether the sender has really any idea of what is happening, or if perhaps the author of fret2fret himself is shooting sharp on those who might have used his tool without buying it "properly"....?!?

note that some of you posted their email-addies in this blog in order to get hold of or information on the tool ...

so be on your guard, and keep on rocking and surfing "on the safe side" - with or without The Amazing Fret2Fret ;-))

the reason why I don't sent anything to anybody anymore:
I get spammed by a sender called mike[at]fret2fret (now YOU guess who that might be!?!) since two weeks or so, and most of these mails contained virus (as I wrote in a comment just a couple of days before!).

hello mikeDOOH please can you get in touch with me on robbie.stewart[at]btopenworld.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

as for everybody else, get a digram of the fretboard and learn it, easy. learn it how you think it is easiest, perhaps in small segments? I have an electric tuner that displays the note that I am playing, It is very usefull to look at this display as I am playing and I can relate the position of my hand to the note being displayed. with this method you can play like clapton in an hour. whether or not your note combinations will work well together will take a few years.

Rock on guys n gals. peace out.

You have got to be kidding!! $30.00 for this CRAP... Maybe the "bonus" material is worth the money (well, mainly just the TABs) but, come on. Oh, and I'm sure that some "big marketing company" is just waiting in the wings to buy him out (according to his F2F website anyway). All anyone has to do is come up with their own mneumonic for the notes and memorize it. That's what any guitar teacher starts you off with anyway. To promote this "method" as giving you the ability to play like Clampton, Page, Van Halen, etc. in an hour or less is absolutely FRAUD!
I certainly don't condone pirating software or raiding file servers but, this guy deserves everything he gets (or loses in this case). Nothing here but an absolute rip-off.
Definitely DO NOT waste your time or money on this one.

Don’t even waste your time looking at this for free. I think I’m dummer now that I’ve read this guy’s article or whatever it was. I’d rather throw myself down some stairs than re-live a badly written scene staring Danny Devito and Arnold Schwartzenager in order to remember how to crush my favorite Pentatonic scale in the middle of my masterpiece about chicks or beer or both.

Ain’t nothin easy about learning the guitar. NO ONE learns the guitar in an hour. You need to practice, take lessons, and talk to older more experienced players. They usually respond positively when asked about what kind of gear they use, why they use it, what year / model their guitar is, etc. You should also listen to more kinds of music and experiment with different styles.

If you really want to be good, knowing all the notes on the guitar is just the beginning. Music Theory isn’t easy for most people, but it’s not astrophysics either. Make an effort to learn. Or not. You can sound great without knowing any theory, but it’s a very rare player that can stay sharp and get better without any practice.

Whatever method you use to remember notes and scales and such, just make sure it works for you. There are countless free charts that show where the notes are. Practice your guitar and think about music when you’re not playing. Also keep in mind that a lot of accomplished players eventually arrive at a point where they forget every thing they’ve learned and just play. Lots of practice is the reason they can do this. Good music usually has big doses of emotion and skill, so don’t forget to practice with emotion.

If you still want to buy this guy’s tripe, you should also know about this bridge I have for sale. I can give you a smokin’ deal on it.

Please, everyone, don't waste your money. Don't even bother getting it for free. Spend the money on a real, face to face teacher or buy something useful and teach youself.

You can learn to name the note at any fret on the fretboard but it won't give you the same technique, improvisational skills, creativity, theoretical knowledge etc. as the people this guy mentions.

There is no substitute for just practicing, and nothing wrong with teaching yourself. Its highly rewarding, and easier to remember something you discovered for yourself rather than were told to memorize.

I recommend eveyone use google to find some of the many readily available free lessons and resources on the internet.

I am self-taught, and although I can name every note on the fretboard (which I figured out how to do for free years ago), this is almost useless compared to proper knowleadge of theory or aural skills like playing by ear and relative pitch, which I have learnt with time and effort.

So long as you put in the time and effort, you can learn to play and peform to fullest extent of you potential, all for free.

There is no miracle method, no 'big secret'. Take the time and enjoy the process of learning.

I got fret2fret from Octo's link ...

http://fret2fret.com/download14jts.html

I started it up and "read" the first 3 pages of junk. You know how easy it is to memorize the fret board? It's 1:30 AM, and I'm about falling asleep, I took two passes of the notes, played it out once quick on my guitar, and I can recite it from memory. This guy's "program" is completely useless. I've been playing for about a year now, and honestly didn't know the fretboard, but most definately didn't have to pay 30$, and would never pay to find out something I could get from say...the internet for free. A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G
G# (shockingly hard)

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I've been playing over 40 years, but I was still suckered in by the f2f website. But, since PayPal was involved, I figrued I could get my money back. The memorization technique doesn't work because of the jump at the B string. The extras are not worth 2 cents, and the Tabs, which I thought would make it worthwhile are garbage. They seem to be mostly unpublished junk written by wannbe song writers with no Talent. Don't waste time downloading, even for free, buy a few sets of new strings and practice a lot.

Don't think for a minute that PayPal will do you any good once you have wasted your $29. They only care about their buck or two stipend for the transaction, and told me I was out of luck.

The cute way that you're taught to "memorize" the fretboard falls apart at the B string and the "extras" are pretty much trash. I was VERY disappointed with the TABS as very little, if any, popular music was included.

People don't be silly. If you want to learn the notes on a fretboard its not as complicated as any "system" makes it out to be.

Side to side the notes on any given string follow the alphabet. A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, and then back to A. If you can remember that then you can learn that up and down the notes follow a sequence that goes A, D, G, C, F, (same sequence again with #'s) A#, D#, G#, C#, F#, (then add) B, E, back to A. It's harder to remember some dumb story with peoples names, or whatever else you think of, to remind you the two above sequences.

It's easy!

A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A
D
G
C
F
A#
D#
G#
C#
F#
B
E
A

I got this program for free, because the people who made the website aren't too bright...search and you will find...
First off, as everyone mentioned, this program uses a "clever" memory technique, using tags and hooks that are created in your mind! Amazing!
His "program" points out a little sequence on the guitar ADGCF,etc...this is very easy to learn...especially WITHOUT his method. If you cannot memorize this sequence, which repeats itself, then you will certainly not be a guitar genius. If you used his method, instead of just memorizing A D G C F, you will learn a nonsensical story involving Arnold Swarchewhatever, BB King, etc...notice how the A in Arnold corresponds to the A in the sequence. Brilliance!
The idea behind Kevin Tradeau's Mega Memory program, which employs this technique, is to make up a very simple set of hooks, not the overly complicated bullshit he made up. Further, those are supposed to become automated and you don't have to sit and struggle making up a story every time you learn something when you use Kevin's technique. In other words, the way the "method" is used in fret2fret is a waste of time. It is overkill. OVERKILL. Go and find it and get it for free, do not WASTE your money. THIS WILL NOT MAKE YOU A GUITAR GENIUS and if it helps you progress 5 years in one hour you were probably doomed anyway.
Oh and the bonuses he gives, one of them fretwarrior (he claims it's $30 or something wacky like that), but go to google and you will find that this program is FREE...then there's the helpful book, how to make a living as a musician! What a gem! I'm starting to rant now...if you wanna learn using a program BUY JAMORAMA

Either buy it don't but steal from the guy. He's not microsoft or some other huge conglomerate. He's an average guy trying to make a go of it. It may help you or not. If not maybe he'll refund your cash. He does use paypal.

I fell for the ad and bought this junk. When I tried to contact Mike Slaiter I got zero response. His aol address was returned as undeliverable. Paypal is of no help as they say they don't guarantee quality. I'm stuck for $30 but maybe that's a cheap price for learning not to buy sight unseen.

Wow, just downloaded off a torrent site.
This is the lamest thing, it doesnt even work. I cant believe people are allowed to ask money for this.
Its a cheap flash file of 5 pages, showing off a memory story that is supposed to help remember the notes on the fret from low e to high e strings.
Really, i thing the internet is an amazing info resource and is full of business opportunities, but there should be a was to protect people from scams like this.

c.mon learning fretboards notes isnt that much of an mystery. .learn the open string names: low e.a.d.g.b.high e. .then alphabets:a.b.c.d.e.f.g. .and between b/c & e/f. Is always half fret..and between any other notes whole fret distance. So starting from open a.string its whole fret to an b.note which is then 2.nd fret.from b its half fret to an c.note 3.rd fret. Then from c its whole fret to d on 5.th fret. And so on. Note that after g its a again with whole fret step in between. .after understanding the fifth string try out for example the low e. .open string is e. And after that becomes f to an 1.st fret with half fret distance between the notes. After f. Its g on 3.rd fret. A on 5.th and so on. .is it hard or what. .of course after learning all these natural notes you must learn to understand the raised & flattened notes. .like the 2.nd fret on low e string is either F# or Gb. . .but as ive been playing guitar over 20.years. .this knowledge will not make anyone play like vai, clapton or whomever. But knowing fretboard notes is very essential if one wants to understand the fretboard and finally know chords,intervals.scales.arpeggious,notation etc. .any comments please send to : artokantola.music@gmail.com. .hope it makes sense to someone. .im falling to a sleep. .

I was tempted by the fret2fret system. As I do not make use of credit cards, I requested alternative means of payment.

He said that his name was Mike Slaiter. When he replied to my email his email address came up as Mikeslaiter@aol.com
He said that I could send a postal order to the following address:
Mike Slaiter
42 Barrington Close
Taunton
Somerset
TA1 4YD
England
UK
I don't know if this helps anyone, but just maybe.

After reading all the coments I'll be sure not to fall for it.

I should have read the comments here earlier. Thanks to all of you!I just bought the software with PayPAL and did not receive a link per e-mail from fret2fret for the download. I asked payPAL to cancel the transaction minutes after I bought the materials realizing there is no instant link like you know it from other internet shops. PayPAL does only refer that you should talk to the seller and there is no protection period of cancellation procedure in such cases at all.
Thanks to the hints here, after searching now, I really found the download page (still exists) , The secret is really not a big deal (five pages flash player session)as you already know reading the comments in this column. The additional material in particular the guitar pro scores are useful for me, but the material is not worth the 28$.
You better stay away from Fret2Fret
and save the money.

I had to laugh when I finally got through all the comments and found a link to the software. Does it bother anyone else that he refers to the "5th" string as "the second thinest" and the that "A" is in front of "D".

High "E" is the "first string". (Closet to the floor if holding the guitar in a standard string pattern"
Low "E" is the "sixth String".
My years of playing music suggest the proper terms would consider that a "B" note is after an "A" note and I would say above if moving for example from the 6th string 5th fret to the sixth string 7th fret.

It just strikes me that aside from all the other BS claimed by the software ad, and the cheesiness of what some poeple got for the money... there are ways to teach the same thing without going against the grain of common language.

Cheers,

AndB

Dear All,
Thankyou so much for saving me thirty bucks, being a useless guitar twanger I was tempted to buy this miracle cure in order to strum a few Dylan songs for my own amusement and fun then maybe a floyd song or two. I cannot believe there is a quick route to any musical instrument - it's tons of practice over months and years. Did Hendrix clapton dylan et al do it any other way?
Anyway the net gave me all the notes on a fret board in vivid colour so I'll memorise them in a couple of days or a week - so what? I'll still murder every tune I try to play until I get it right BY PRACTISING IT! ?Anyone got next week's lottery numbers?

The package is rubbish dont waste your money(I Did).
If you know where you are on the top E string you can figure out all the other notes on the fret board

Top string is the thickest the bottom the thinnest for this.

Travelling along Top E string (fat one )

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th Repeat
F F# G G# A A# B C C# D D# E

Easy to remember “ Fender Gibson ABCDE “

Add a sharp after every full note Except B + E

Remember B + E Only occur once NO SHARPS

Vertical notation down (vertically) the fret board

A D G C F A# D# G# C# F# B E

A Daft Guy Called Fred A# Daft# Guy# Called# Fred# Broke Everything

The Top string note is the same note as the bottom string note (they are an octave apart) So you know two of the strings already.

This does work for the first four strings, but on the fifth string you need to change the note for the one before the note of the sixth string.

For example:

If your Top String is F the bottom string is F you follow the note order like this

F A# D# G# C F

Fred A# Daft# Guy# Called Fred

To make it simple if the bottom string is a G# change the fifth to a D# or Bottom string is a C change the fifth to a G#

I think this is right
good luck
Let me know if it works
keep m rockin

i found something besides "The incredible guitar breakthrough" that u still have to purchase but it seems pretty legit. it comes in 2 volumes, the first one is priced at $22.95, and the second one is priced at $18.95. Dont just take my word for it, check it out. They have a short sample that u can try, but it is definately for starters because its pretty much the basic major scale, you know "Do Re Mi..." Here's the link for anyone who wants to check it out, and if anyone purchases it, let me know how it is. http://www.guitargrid.com/

Like so many others posting comments here, I have found out the hard way about the unscrupulous Mike Slaiter. Whilst being sceptical of the learn in an hour claim, I was nonetheless intrigued with what may be on offer, and his response to my enquiry email about Mac OS compatibility, combined with the availability to pay with PayPal and a refund option lured me in. Big mistake! Is there no way of making the wider world of those other wannabe guitar brethren out there aware of this sheister before they part with their money? It needs a big banner pasting across his webpage declaring it a dodgy place to be - any web developer specialists out there?

I posted a comment with some good things to say about the product. I noticed that it has been removed. Beware of what you read. For 28 bucks it ain't so bad. Don't cheat the guy out of his time and money. It will teach you the fret board but will not make you a pro. Only practice can make you a pro.

Loved this discussion even more than the waffling claims of the original fret2fret ad!

If it's all down to my best friend the Circle of Fifths, then maybe this will help anyone who hasn't yet memorised it:

It's the way I was taught (for free) the order of sharps and flats, but as it's a circle you can pick it up at any point.

The real beauty of this is that you an use it forwards AND backwards and it still makes sense.

Father Charles Goes Down and Ends Battle.
Battle Ends And Down Goes Charles' Father.

Now to see if I can apply that to the guitar fretboard!!

You are re-directed to a broken link after you pay via paypal, but that's alright! I wrote him and within 10 minutes(litrally) I had a reply with a link to the downloads page. I've only taken a cursory look at everything, but at least it isn't a blatant rip-off in the sense that you send money but get nothing in return.

Do not fall for his latest scam like I did.(easy pro guitar). All it is is the major scale pattern looked at 2 strings at a time. When you ask for a refund you get no answer.

Latest SCAM by Mike Slaiter is "Easy Guitar Pro". Same stupid attempt to memorize the fretboard, like fret2fret was. And NO..he does not honor the "%100 money back garantee". In fact, he doesn't answer emails when asked for it. And Paypal is no help. You received the product. It doesn't matter to them that it doesn't work. You're out of luck. (and $34.50)
The software you are directed to download from: http://www.9gigs.com/EasyGuitarPro.zip
Is worthless. It wouldn't even work. Definately NOT worth the $34.50 price tag.
Save your money.
