Sonny Rhodes....Coming To Santa Barbara!

Santa Barbara Blues Society

Event: Sonny Rhodes

Date: Saturday, July 28, 2007

Time: 8:30 PM

Location: Warren Hall, Earl Warren Showgrounds, 3400 Calle Real, Santa Barbara

Description:

Renowned lap steel guitarist Sonny Rhodes will return to play for the Santa Barbara Blues Society for the first time since 1979. Born in Smithville, Texas, Rhodes began playing the guitar at age 8 and recorded his first disc in 1958. He credits T-Bone Walker, B.B. King and Pee Wee Crayton as his main influences. After playing in the bands of Freddie King and Albert Collins he formed his own group. Having composed over 200 songs and touring for almost 50 years, Rhodes is still going strong, performing throughout North America and Europe. He has been recognized an incredible 12 years in a row by The Blues Foundation for his proficiency on the lap steel guitar. He appeared for the society 5 times between 1977 and 1979; his return is long overdue.
